The Calling Lakes Planning District Commission is currently in the beginning phases of developing a
District Official Community Plan
that will provide a coordinated approach for regional growth and they need your input!


Background and Purpose of Calling Lakes

In 2008, due to the significant increase in development, the Municipalities had met and began discussing the need to work together to identify and address concerns on a regional basis.

As a result of the meetings, the Calling Lakes Planning District Commission was formed. Some of the major concerns that came out of the discussions included the need to guide appropriate development within the Qu'Appelle Valley from Pasqua Lake to Katepwa Lake and to try and prevent any detrimental effects that an increase in development may have on the environment.

The group had also identified that with the significant increase in development, the need to appropriately manage sewage capacity will be crucial and that consistent guidelines and goals for development in the Valley are essential.

Who we are:

Calling Lakes is a group of 7 Municipalities that includes the R.M. of North Qu'Appelle # 187, Town of Fort Qu'Appelle, Village of Lebret, Village of Lipton, Resort Village of B-Say-Tah, Resort Village of District of Katepwa and the Resort Village of Fort San.

What we've been doing:
  • Since 2008, the group has been meeting to discuss and identify solutions for common issues and concerns regarding development that is affecting the environment

  • In February 2009, the group had met with numerous provincial agencies and departments to discuss some of the concerns in regards to development around the lakes and to identify how they could assist

  • The group has developed a tool which will be used to look at the different regional development portions that will guide the development of the District Official Community Plan.
